چکیده

Nonlinear Optical Spectroscopy of Solid/Solid Interfaces Mohsen S. Yeganeh Arjun G. Yodh Three-wave mixing (3WM) spectroscopy is an exciting and relatively unexplored probe of buried solid interfaces. It possesses long penetration depths characteristic of most optical methods and intrinsic interface specificity characteristic of second-order optical processes. In this thesis we present frequency domain measurements of the ZnSe/GaAs(OOl) heterojunction by second-harmonic (SH) and sum-frequency (SF) generation. Our experiments reveal an unusual three-wave mixing resonance that arises as a result of virtual transitions between an interfacial quantum well state and the ZnSe valence band. The interfacial quantum well was brought about by interdiffusion of Zn (Ga) into GaAs (ZnSe) during sample growth. The observation introduces a new class of nonlinear optical phenomena at interfaces that can provide useful information about band profiles, diffusion and defects along the boundary of two semiconductors.

Solid State Process for Preparation of Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles: Characterization and Optical Study

In the present work, we report preparation of NiO nanoparticles with well-defined plate morphology by solid-state reaction of NiCl2∙6H2O and the Schiff base ligand N,N′-bis-(3-methoxysalicylidene)benzene-1,4-diamine), as a novel precursor via solid state thermal decomposition method. This method is a simple and environmentally friendly for preparing t...

Optical and Nano structural properties of Hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanorods in interaction with Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) Protein Solution

Hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanorods were synthesized by hydrothermal method using Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a surfactant agent. To study optical, nanostructural properties, and to control the morphology and shape of nanorods, 0.025 mol L-1, 0.05 mol L-1 and 0.1 mol L-1 concentration of CTAB were used. Moreover, the effect of interaction between bovine serum albumin (BSA) A9418-5G protein...

Chemical kinetics at solid – solid interfaces *

The kinetics of solid–solid interfaces controls in part the course of heterogeneous reactions in the solid state, in particular in miniaturized systems. In this paper, the essential situations of interface kinetics in solids are defined, and the basic formal considerations are summarized. In addition to the role interfaces play as resistances for transport across them, they offer high diffusivi...

Monomer exchange dynamics of self-assembled surfactant monolayers at the solid-liquid interface.

Self-assembly of surface-active agents at solid–liquid interfaces is critical for many processes in nature and technology, including the stability of suspension, detergency, wetting and mineral separation. Historically, a detailed understanding of nanometer-scale layers has emerged. However, surprisingly little is known about their dynamics—the key to non-equilibrium phenomena. Even in equilibr...

Optimum Design of End-Pumped Solid-State Lasers

The principle of laser action was first experimentally demonstrated in 1960 by T. Maiman (Maiman, 1960). This first system was a solid-state laser in which a ruby crystal and a flashlamp served as gain medium and pump source, respectively. Soon after this first laser experiment, it was realized that solid-state lasers are highly attractive sources for various scientific and industrial applicati...
